UAE’s Department of Transport has set a new Guinness world record by for forming the largest “bus mosaic” depicting the UAE national flag.
Staff at the department spent two weeks preparing and painting the 156 buses - 39 representing each colour – to create the flag at Shahama parking yard in Abu Dhabi. The completed mosaic measured 36.6 metres long and 145.3 metres wide.
Department of Transport says it hopes the flag will increase awareness of its role and importance of public transport in relieving traffic congestion and facilitating mobility for people.
Speaking to local media, Samer Khallouf, project manager for the Middle East and North Africa at Guinness World Records said there were certain requirements to be fulfilled before it could be deemed a record.
“This is a new category. We set the minimum requirement to accomplish the record, which was 150 buses. They managed to successfully have 156 buses to form the UAE national flag,” Khallouf said.
