Male teachers needed

Dubai government is keen to encourage more Emirati boys, and girls, into teaching…

The government has launched a new two-year long survey to determine why so few Emiratis, in particular boys, are choosing to become teachers.

The study will determine at what age children make career choices and when they start to drift away from these aspirations.

Ultimately the aim of the research, which has been commissioned by the Emirates Foundation, is to boost the number of Emirati teachers by 90 percent over the next decade – in particular male teachers.

Recent analysis by senior educational experts reveals a distinct gap between the number of male and female Emirati teachers in public schools.

Statistics released by the Ministry of Education that male Emirati teachers constitute only 11 percent of the total number of teachers in government boys' schools nationwide.
