Dubai Food Carnival news

Celebrity chefs, wacky competitions and cooking lessons in Dubai

Knowledge story, The Knowledge

Taking place from Thursday February 12 to Saturday 14, the three-day Dubai Food Carnival is one of the highlights of the now annual, city-wide Dubai Food Festival. With 80 food brands and 40 restaurants taking part, we take a look at what else there is to look forward to on this year’s line-up.

Famous chefs
This year, the line-up of international celebrity chefs taking part is even stronger, featuring British TV sensation and owner of the JW Marriott Marquis’ Rang Mahal restaurant Atul Kochhar, owner of The Scene in Dubai Marina, Simon Rimmer, and top Indian chef Sanjeev Kapoor, behind Dubai’s Khazana, Options and Signature eateries. Meanwhile, seven regional talents will be repping the Middle East’s culinary scene, including chef Manal Al Alem (‘Queen of the Arabic kitchen), Fatafeat TV regular Tarek Ibrahim, Prime 68 restaurant’s Tyson Podolski, a trio of chefs from Jumeirah Group’s kitchens and the ever-present Silvena Rowe, the brains behind Omnia Gourmet and Omnia Blue.

Wacky competitions
There will be activities taking place throughout the weekend – and some of them may not be quite what you’d expect. Think you can eat for the UAE? Register for the Rib n’Bibs competition, where contestants compete to eat as much of a 2kg plate of beef ribs as possible inside eight minutes. If the thought of that turns your stomach, the Great Yalla BBQ is a heated (albeit easier on the digestive system) competition to crown the Kings and Queens of the grill.

Get skills
Seven local chefs will host cooking demonstrations and ‘How to’ sessions in the Dubai Food Festival Academy, as well as going head-to-head in fiery competitions. Visiting international chefs will be taking over the Chef’s Dome to host their own exciting demonstrations.
