Thirty Seconds to Mars is set to rock Dubai next month, with UAE band Juliana Down supporting them.

But that’s not the only act hitting the stage before Jared Leto and co. perform in front of fans on Friday, April 10.

The concert will feature a local band or solo artist from a competition dubbed #MARSBattleoftheBands. The winning act will get to perform in front of the multi-platinum album American rock band’s 10,000 fans at the Dubai World Trade Centre Arena.

All UAE and GCC residents are in with a chance of winning the amazing experience and best of all there’s no minimum age limit or restriction on number of band members.
So all sorts of musicians have the chance of being discovered simply by uploading a 30-second clip of their performance on Facebook, Twitter or another social media platform with the hashtags #MARSBattleoftheBands and #MARSinDubai.

Launching today, the competition closes March 23 and music industry heavyweights make up the judging panel. Live Nation Middle East Managing Director, James Craven, Live Nation Senior Vice President of Talent, Tyler Mervyn, CEO of Universal Music Middle East & North Africa, Patrick Boulos, lead vocalist of Juliana Down; Dia Hassan, plus Virgin Radio Host and Artist, Kris Fade; as well as the Senior Executive of Du Live. The experts will pick the top ten and final five finalists before the winner is chosen by the band members of Thirty Seconds to Mars - including Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević - and will be announced on Sunday, April 5.

The organisers explained that the idea came from both the star act of the forthcoming evening as well as the music events company.

“Live Nation Middle East believes that there is a pantheon of local performers in the country that deserve a branded platform to showcase their talent. Hence, together with Thirty Seconds to Mars, who genuinely would like to support these amazing talents, we have decided to do #MARSBattleoftheBands,” said Tyler Mervyn, Senior Vice President of Talent.

The gig is part of Middle East Film and Comic Con 2015 (MEFCC), the region’s largest popular culture festival showcasing Film, TV, Sci-Fi, Animation, Gaming, Comics and more. MEFCC takes place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from April 9-11.

Tickets are priced at 295 AED for general admission, with fan pit access priced at Dhs395, and Dhs550 for VIP admission. Tickets can be purchased online. Fans can get up close and personal with limited edition meet-and-greet tickets from For more information please visit
