In the city that brought you gold iPods, gold-flavoured ice cream and gold-class cinemas - now a gold MacBook is on the way.

The news was announced on Monday in San Francisco when Apple revealed its upcoming products and people of Dubai waited to hear all the details from the event which started at 9pm UAE time.

Twitter went into overdrive as the term - along with #AppleWatch – began trending on the micro-blogging website in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.  The brand shared that the full-size laptop would be their “lightest and most compact” ever notebook, making it easier to tote around thanks to its thin size.

How thin? 13.1mm in depth, plus it weighs only 2lbs and has a 12-inch retina display with edge-to-edge glass which makes everything come into focus and due to 3 million pixels making the appearance extremely clear.

Gold isn’t the only metallic hue the item is available in though, customers can also snap up a silver and space grey version. It has a full-size keyboard, silent processor with no overheating and the product – starting at Dhs4771 - is claimed to have nine hours battery life.

It wasn’t the only new offering chief executive Tim Cook revealed at the conference in California. Expect an Apple Watch from April 24 available in – you guessed it, gold. The device is not only dubbed great for precise timekeeping but helps you stay in contact with friends, monitor fitness and more.

If 18-karat gold cases in yellow or rose with sapphire crystal isn’t your style for the Edition type, stainless steel or space black stainless steel with sapphire crystal is available.

On top of that the Sport version comes in anodized aluminium cases with silver or space grey and has strengthened Ion-X glass with colourful durable bands. Prices start at Dhs1,282 but you could pay up to Dhs62,441 if you opt for a higher end version.

People in Dubai have already showed big interest in snapping up Apple’s latest additions. One Twitter user wrote: “I can think of a few hundred, ahem million people that will be running to buy the gold #macbook in #Dubai - 1 of thems me! Muhaha.”

Another shared: “I can see the attraction of the sport one for $500. Love the new MacBook though.”
