The upcoming Star Trek movie is being filmed in Dubai.
Titled Star Trek Beyond, as seemingly confirmed in a tweet send by Director Justin Lin, the film is due out next July in the United States.
However it has only recently been confirmed that the flick will be partly filmed in the United Arab Emirates.
‘We start shooting in 10 days and we’re shooting in Vancouver and Dubai,’ it was revealed in an interview with Skydance Productions’ CEO David Ellison and COO Dana Goldberg. The duo laughed when it was suggested Dubai was a great place for an alien planet, adding that it ‘could be’. However it has not been revealed exactly how the city will feature or specifically which element of Dubai will play a significant part.
The previous two flicks – Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness - were directed by JJ Abrams and were mainly shot in Los Angeles, California.
Actors Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Chris Pine and Simon Pegg play Spock, Uhura, Kirk and Scotty, respectively.
British actor Idris Elba is rumoured to be cast in the forthcoming motion picture.
Filming for the third Star Trek has begun shooting in Canada and the screen stars have been posted behind-the-scenes pictures from the action on set.
