If you live in Dubai you might be used to seeing skydivers launching themselves off a small plane and onto the incredible landscape.
But we can’t imagine what it would be like to see glow-in-the-dark creatures with wings flying over Meydan Racecourse.
That’s exactly what attendees of the 2014 Dubai World Cup saw when skydivers descended on the planet’s richest horse race last year.
Skydive Dubai athletes Julian Boulle, Noah Bahnson, and Greg Shelton along with Soul Flyers Vince Reffet as well as Roberta Mancino did a wingsuit night demo jump.
This behind-the-scenes video shares their experience – which was like no other stunt they’d pulled before – making for a brilliant sight to those decked out in their finest attire for the annual extravaganza.
The team did practice jumps at night using headlamps on their arms and legs to illuminate themselves.
One of the divers mentioned: ‘The helicopter was intensely bright once we turned them all on.’
Another from the group added on reflection: ‘I remember Vince’s really smiley face and we were all excited about this jump.’
The video shows the action from the back of one of the crew members, with breeze inflating their SkyDive Dubai gear.
Looking like fireflies in the sky, the dynamic soon changes as a parachute is launched and they prepare for landing.
Once on the ground they exclaim: ‘That was awesome’ and high five each other.
One of the divers admitted he got distracted a lot because in the distance was a beautiful Dubai sunset over the Palm Jumeirah.
The team add how surreal it was to then swiftly change out of their ensembles to don swanky gear at the DWC event afterwards.
