Rap duo Akon and French Montana will headline the second instalment of Dance Afrique in Dubai.

The celebration of African music has just rocked the world famous Wembley Arena, and will roll up to Meydan Racecourse on October 8.

As well as bringing some of the brightest talent from the continent to a worldwide audience, the event will lean on the international stardom of the headliners to pull in the crowds.

French Montana, who was born in Morocco but has been a resident in the US for more than 17 years, is perhaps best known for his profile away from music, having dated a series of A-List stars, Khloe Kardashian.

With the mic in his hand, the 30-year-old has enjoyed chart success 2013’s Pop That, featuring Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Drake. His album, Excuse My French charted as high as number four. The rapper, real name Karim Kharbouch, will release Mac & Cheese later this later.

The biggest name on the bill, however, is Akon, a star of Senegalese origin who has had three top 20 albums in the US and two number one singles, I Wanna Love You, featuring Snoop Dogg, and Don’t Matter, both in 2006.

Over more than a decade of chart success, Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam has worked with leading lights of the urban music game, including T-Pain, Eminem and Young Jeezy. In 2013 he released Hurt Somebody with French Montana.

Virgin Radio Dubai presenters Kris Fade and Big Rossi, as well as Awilo Logomba and Flavour N’abania, will also be a part of the event, which was attended by more than 4,000 people in 2014.

Tickets are available from Virgin Megastore, priced at Dhs200 (early bird) up to Dhs550.
