There were fireworks on social media on Tuesday as it was revealed Katy Perry would be performing in Dubai in November.
However much of the reaction was one of surprise and/or disappointment as it emerged the show would be invite only.
Scheduled for November 10, the 30-year-old will be the special guest at the Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner, an event that attracts big spenders, partners and VIPs from the trade show.
Many had hoped Perry's appearance would be a little further down the road from Dubai World Central, in Abu Dhabi, for the F1 after-race concerts later that month.
As it is she follows the likes of George Benson, Stevie Wonder and Rod Stewart in performing for airshow guests. Organisers confirmed her set will include huge international hits like Firework, I Kissed A Girl and Roar.
Dubai Airports announced the gig under the headline 'World's largest stage to open'. That however, is erroneous with it actually referring to the amount of people who will be reached via social media and through videos played through the airport.
As well as Perry, who was last in the region in December 2012 when she performed at the FAI World Parachuting Championships Closing Ceremony, there will be reality TV stars Jack Pack. The swing vocal group will perform on November 11.
