Period of mourning announced for Sheikh Rashid

Sheikh Rashid was son of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

A three-day period of mourning has been declared after the death of HH Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was announced.

Sheikh Rashid was the eldest son of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The news was announced by the Dubai Media Office on Saturday morning.

"Dubai Ruler’s Court announces three days of mourning after the death of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” a statement on Twitter said on Saturday morning.

"UAE President mourns the late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and expresses his sincere condolences to @HHShkMohd and Al Maktoum Family," the account added.

National news agency WAM reported Sheikh Rashid, who was 34, died of a heart attack.

Funeral prayers will be held at Zaabel Mosque and he will be buried in Umm Harir cemetery in Bur Dubai, the news report added.

Throughout the mourning period, UAE flags will fly at half-mast at all Dubai government offices.
