Old football rivalries will be reignited at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium when legends of the game from Manchester United, Liverpool FC, Rangers and Celtic take each other on at the Dubai Duty Free Football Legends Tournament on October 23.

Liverpool’s John Barnes, Vladimir Smicer and Patrik Berger have confirmed their attendance and will be lacing up their boots against fellow veteran players such as Viv Anderson who played for Manchester United from 1987-1991, Ranger’s goalie Andy Goram, and winger Regi Blinker who scored nine goals for the Scottish team between 1997 and 2000.

While the games are friendly, the competitive fires will surely be stoked up once again once the teams jog out on to the pitch in front of fans. John Barnes, 51, who made over 300 appearances for Liverpool and won 79 caps for England is itching to score some goals against his former adversaries. 'I cannot wait to step back on that pitch in Dubai!” says the former Liverpool number 10. Adding, "Liverpool against Man United and Rangers against Celtic are some on the biggest rivalries in the world of football, and you can be sure that none of these players like to lose so the competitiveness will still be there for all to see."

The derby on October 23 will be first Dubai Duty Free Football Legends Tournament and Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free hopes to continue bringing exciting sporting events to the city. “I am sure that it will attract fans both young and old who will have the unique opportunity of watching some of the footballing giants participate in this one off event.”
