Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road was at a total gridlock on Monday afternoon after a massive fire broke out nearby.
Traffic was at a standstill and people were warned to avoid the area when smoke engulfed the region near Exotic Cars and behind AlFuttaim Motors showroom.
The blaze came from Bin Hareb Factory in Al Quoz and struggled to stay under control in the windy weather.
Buildings were evacuated as emergency services were called to the scene, meanwhile social media users chimed in with their experience of the disaster.
"The fire on #SZR is massive, I can smell the smoke all the way in Nad Al Sheba," @xo_B_ posted on the micro-blogging website.
Firefighter were trying to save a major oil tank, reports Gulf News.
"Massive #Fire in #Dubai. Fire engines seen rushing towards safa park area. Smoke seen until Mall of Emirates #SZR," @blogliterati shared.
So far there is no word on how the fire started and no casualties have been reported.
"We received a call at 12.50pm reporting of a fire on Sheikh Zayed Road between Interchanges 2 and 3, with emergency teams arriving on the scene within minutes. The fire was brought under control by Civil Defence teams by 1.56pm,” a spokesman said.
"No one was seriously injured in the fire; however, the cause of the blaze is still under investigation."
