Time Out Dubai has launched the shortlist for the seventh annual Nightlife Awards.
Taking place on March 30 at JW Marriott Marquis, the celebration of the best bars, clubs, DJs, shows and more in Dubai is the most complete event of its kind in the UAE.
And after yet another breakthrough year for the nightlife industry in the Middle East, the 2016 shindig promises to be the best yet.
Based on an entire year of independent reviews by Time Out experts, coveted titles like Club Of The Year, Best Lounge Bar and Best Beach Club are considered the most authoritative in town.
This year, there are some new gongs taking into consideration of the most popular past times in Dubai, brunch. But unlike the Restaurant Awards, this Best Party Brunch pays heed to the weekend feasts that cater a more excitable audience.
Time Out also continues to champion local talent, with awards like Best Dubai DJ, Best Dubai Act and Best Resident DJ.
This year, the public are once again invited to get involved. Even if you’re not a nominee, there’s still the opportunity to get involved on the big night, by heading down to a roof-raising after-party at Dubai’s spectacular Cavalli Club, headlined by an international hip-hop pioneer. We have two words for you: Grandmaster Flash. The Barbados-born, Bronx-bred DJ has been tearing the scene up since the ’70s and has been a true trailblazer for mix-masters and scratch sentinels ever since.
Along with the Furious Five, he bridged the gap between underground rap parties and the mainstream, with anthemic hit The Message at the fore. Now 58, the DJ, aka Joseph Saddler, is as much a force to be reckoned with as ever.

Despite his immense talent, Flash has always seemed a little uneasy with fame. He once said in an interview: “I can walk through any block, any city, any country and within ten minutes there’s someone stopping me to say, ‘Thank you’. Some people are speechless, some kiss my hand, some stutter and some stare. I have to say, ‘Touch me, feel my pulse’. I don’t want to be superhuman. I just want to be Grandmaster Flash and Joseph Saddler.”
And who are we to argue with that? We might stare, a little.
