New Dubai speed cameras

New cameras installed at pedestrian crossings to stop speeding

The Traffic Department of Dubai Police will implement new cameras across pedestrian crossings following an increase in the number of vehicles jumping the traffic signal.

Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zaffein, Director of the General Department of Traffic of Dubai Police, said police installed three new cameras on pedestrians crossings on Al Wasl Road (after the Iranian Hospital) and towards Umm Suqeim.

Another camera was placed in Al Jumeirah next to the park, which captured 14 images of people jumping the red signal in less than 10 hours, he said.

Al Zaffein said violators were fined Dh800 and given eight black points while having their vehicles confiscated for two weeks.

Some of violators were given an additional of Dh2,000 fine along with 12 black points for endangering lives.

"Unfortunately many people only abide by the safety rules and regulations when faced with strict fines and surveillance cameras. From our study and experience increasing these cameras is the best solution that's why in the near future we are placing camera in every single pedestrian crossing," he said.
