Looking for an alternative weekend get-together, birthday idea or place to present to your team?

Dubai’s only arthouse cinema, Cinema Akil, has launched a substantial summer discount on its private hire option.

And if you’ve not checked out the Alserkal Avenue favourite, with its cosy, living room-vibe (don’t be fooled, the sound and screening quality is high quality cinema-standard) this is an opportunity to have it all to yourself – and decide what you’re screening.

Alternatively, check out the summer series right here.

Private hire is normally priced at Dhs7,000 during peak times (Fri-Sat 3pm-11.30pm, Tue-Sat 5pm-11.30pm) and Dhs3,500 off-peak (Fri-Sat 8am-3pm, Tue-Thu 8am-5pm) for a two-hour slot, but now you can book and get 40 percent off these rates – meaning prices are now Dhs4,800 and Dhs2,100 respectively.

Abiding by social distancing guidelines, the space can host 40 people, and be used for a variety of functions in addition to movie screenings, including film and photo shoots, team-building events, presentations, meetings, panel discussions, product launches, workshops and birthdays.

There’s also the option to add catering packages from Dubai’s much-loved Project Chaiwala, which not only serves up brilliant chai (surprise!), but superb snacks including chilli cheese toasties and its signature smashmosas (which is exactly as it sounds).

The venue has free wi-fi throughout, and wheelchair access.

Face masks must be worn at all times, except when eating and drinking, and all authority-mandated safety measures, including temperature checks on arrival, are in place.
