Dubai Airport runway closure: everything you need to know

Today, essential maintenance will begin on Dubai International Airport's southern runway – with some services moving to the city’s other airport Dubai World Central. Here’s everything you need to know about the 45-day upgrade, which will conclude on Thursday May 30.

Double check your flight
You may have flown into DXB, but may be due to leave from DWC, or vice-versa. No Emirates flights will move, however some services will be reduced, while passengers flying with all other airlines should take care to reconfirm your flight out of the city.

These include flights with Aeroflot, Air India, Air India Express, Azur Air, Condor, flydubai, flynas, Gulf Air, Himalaya Airlines, Indigo, Kuwait Airways, Mahan Air, Nepal Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Salam Air, SpiceJet, Ukraine International Airlines, Ural Airlines and Wizz Air.

Arrive early
As the world’s busiest airport, a huge amount of planning has gone into minimising the disruption at DXB. Passengers should arrive in plenty of time – at least three hours early for all international flights in order to keep things running smoothly. The same goes for DWC.

Flying from DWC
This will become the world’s busiest airport capable of handling 120 million passengers a year in 2020. Services have already been transformed with increased smart gates, check-in desks, immigration counters and baggage carousels plus more taxis. Taxi flag fares will drop from Dhs25 to Dhs5 during the works, while taxi app Careem is also offering passengers 25 percent off fares to DWC. Use code FLYDWC. There are 2,500 free, shaded parking spaces for anyone flying from DWC.

Free bus between airports
Passengers should clear customs and immigration at the airport. Transit visa fees will be waived allowing passengers to move between the two airports for 48 hours. Free buses between hubs will run every 30 minutes and stop at all terminals. Average journey times of one hour may increase in rush hour.

Home check-in
You can now save 30 percent on check-ins from home, hotel or office with DUBZ Powered by dnata. Use the promo code DUBZ_DWC.
