Dubai's The Art of Shaving 'barber spa' will make you ditch the disposable razor forever

For most of us, a shave is something that happens at the last minute on the way out of the door in the morning.

But Dubai’s The Art of Shaving, which came to the city direct from the streets of New York, has spent years honing the perfect experience that combines luxurious surroundings with relaxing traditional techniques.

While celebrating its second anniversary in the city, the gents’ barbershop is offering a special Royal Shave service which combines the precision of a straight razor with the masterful techniques of traditionally trained barbers.

It all starts off with a hot towel and a protective layer of pre-shave oil followed by a hot lather of shaving cream. Then the barbers get to work, before re-lathering and shaving against the grain for closeness.

Next up it’s another hot towel with lemon essential oil followed by an after-shave mask to replenish the skin’s moisture.

If that’s not enough, next you’ll get a cold towel with lavender essential oil and then a healthy dose of hydrating toner and after-shave balm to hydrate the shaven skin.

Bringing decades of experience from the US, it’s all part of the store’s Barber Spa service – but you won’t find a fluffy dressing gown and slippers here.

Instead, The Art of Shaving’s branches at City Walk, Dubai Festival City and The Dubai Mall aim to teach men about the “four elements of the perfect shave” – that’s prepare, lather up, shave and moisturize – using high-end products and time-weathered techniques.

You’ll also find high-quality badger hair shaving brushes, different types of razors and stands made of luxury materials including rose gold and anodized aluminum.

You’ll never want to pick up a disposable razor again.
Prices vary. Locations include City Walk, Dubai Festival City and The Dubai Mall,
