Road expansion set to ease congestion between Dubai and Sharjah

Anyone who drives between Dubai and Sharjah regularly will have felt the pain of sitting in traffic.

But your commute is about to get a whole lot easier thanks to a Dhs3.38 billion development project.

Al Etihad, Mohamed Bin Zayed and the Emirate roads are all set to be expanded, with works beginning at the start of 2020.

There will also be an expansion on Al Ittihad road which will hopefully ease congestion for people travelling between Dubai and Sharjah.

The news comes after it was revealed the Abu Dhabi toll roads will be free during off-peak hours.

The capital's Department of Municipalities and Transport have announced that the fees will only be charged during peak hours of 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm Saturday to Thursday.

It will cost Dhs4 per gate during those hours (with a maximum charge of Dhs16 per day and Dhs200 per month).
