Eid al-Adha expected to fall on July 31

If you’re already looking forward to some time off work, Eid al-Adha is likely to fall on Friday July 31.

Eid al-Adha is based on the sighting of the moon, and an exact date will be announced nearer the time, though predictions suggest it will be Friday July 31, meaning a day off work on Sunday August 2.

Other public holidays in the UAE in 2020 include Islamic New Year, which will be celebrated with a public holiday on Sunday August 23, giving many a three-day weekend.

Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Birthday will be celebrated with a public holiday on Thursday October 29, while Commemoration Day is marked on December 1, which in 2020 falls on a Tuesday.

The UAE’s 49th National Day will then be recognised on December 2 and 3, so with the Commemoration Day holiday, those who work in Dubai will enjoy three days of holidays and some will enjoy a five-day weekend.

Here are all the dates for your diary for 2020:

• Eid al-Adha – Predicted to fall on Friday July 31 (depending on moon sighting)
• Islamic New Year – Sunday August 23
• Prophet Muhammed’s (PBUH) Birthday – Thursday October 29
• Commemoration Day – Tuesday December 1
• UAE National Day – Wednesday December 2 and Thursday December 3
