Dubai Metro celebrates 15 years with free nol discount cards and ice cream (and so much more)

All the birthday perks to know

Today, Monday September 9, the Dubai Metro turns 15 years old.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, revealed that Dubai Metro has carried more than 2.4 billion passengers across 4.3 million trips in total over the last 15 years.

In a recent post on X (formally known as Twitter), Sheikh Mohammed shared these impressive stats and shared hopes for a 100 percent Metro punctuality rate (it currently boasts 99.7 percent).

So to celebrate this monumental occasion, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is doing it in style with a bunch of freebies, special collectables and super fun celebrations.

Since its launch on September 9 2009, the Dubai Metro has become one of the best ways to get around and this milestone anniversary will definitely give you a reason to get on the metro.

Collectors, get ready — Emirates Post is rolling out limited edition stamps just for this occasion.

Plus, the RTA is launching a special edition nol card featuring a cool campaign logo and a custom design created by LEGO. Al Jaber Gallery is offering some must-have metro-themed souvenirs to mark the event.

On top of that, on Saturday September 21, LEGOLAND Dubai will throw a special party for “Metro Babies,” kids born between September 9 2009 and September 9 2023. Parents can sign up their little ones for the fun on RTA’s website.

And guess what? There’s even more… IGLOO Ice Creams is releasing limited-edition ice creams shaped like the Dubai Metro (this we can’t wait to see).

Plus, if you’re lucky, your ice cream might come with a special code, giving you a shot at winning one of 5,000 nol Terhaal discount cards.

And to top it off, from Saturday September 21 until Friday September 27, Dubai Metro stations will come alive with music during the fourth Dubai Metro Music Festival.

Enjoy live performances by Emirati and international musicians as you travel.

Happy commuting.
