Dubai is gearing up for a major milestone as the city’s iconic Metro turns 15 on September 9 2024.
To mark the occasion, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a unique initiative to honour the ‘Metro Baby’ for those born on the same day the driverless train first hit the tracks.
The RTA is offering a special academic sponsorship to select “Metro babies”—children born on September 9 2009.
Eligible students must be UAE Nationals with a cumulative GPA of 90 percent or higher. This sponsorship could be a game-changer, providing financial support for higher education.
They need to be students pursuing studies in the following fields. Electromechanical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, data science and computer science specifically in cybersecurity and Artificial intelligence.
So if you’re a metro baby, good luck.
But the celebrations aren’t limited to just academic perks. On Saturday September 21, LEGOLAND Dubai will throw a special party for any Metro Baby born between September 9 2009 and September 9 2023. Parents can sign up their little ones for the fun on RTA’s website.
And from September 21 to 27, residents across the UAE can enjoy live musical performances at various Metro stations, featuring a mix of Emirati and international artists. It’s a week-long musical journey that reflects Dubai’s diverse and vibrant culture.
Adding to the excitement, 5,000 lucky residents will have the chance to win discount Nol cards by finding a special code on limited-edition Metro-shaped ice cream sticks.
