The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai has revealed that its partnership with Careem Bike has led to millions of kilograms of carbon emissions being saved in the past four years.
Celebrating the completion of 7.35 million Careem Bike trips since 2020, the RTA has revealed that anyone making use of the service has significantly reduced energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
The equivalent to the emissions of 1,208 cars, 4.32 million kgs of CO2, have been saved since the launch of the handy service claims the RTA.
The bike service is the largest pedal-assist bike-sharing network in the region with 197 stations dotted around Dubai’s extensive cycling tracks network.
Around 1,800 bikes are available for rent at any given time in the emirate.
Careem Bike users have collectively covered a total distance of a whopping 28.4 million km since the service launched.
The longest individual trip spanned 48 km, from Quranic Park in Al Khawaneej to the Marina Promenade.
Residents accounted for 68 percent of the total trips, while tourists made up 32 percent of the trips taken on Careem Bikes.

In 2023 alone, Careem Bike users in Dubai made over 2.3 million trips, representing a 66.3 percent increase in total trips compared to 2022.
This reflects the high demand for bikes in Dubai, particularly for first- and last-mile trips, which accounted for 76 percent of the total trips.
To rent a Careem Bike, users can download or open the Careem app and select ‘Bike’ on the home screen.
New users get 50 percent off their first-day pass using code RIDE50 and Careem Plus members can also make use of an unlimited 30 percent off one-day pass, for a monthly fee of Dhs19 per month.
