Talabat is treating Dubai drivers to 30,000 ice-creams this summer

That’s not the only measure being taken

One of Dubai’s leading delivery apps has gone the extra mile this week to ensure its drivers are cool during the summer.

Summer has fully arrived in the city, with July already seeing the hottest week of 2024 so far, and humidity levels reaching over 80 per cent.

The heat isn’t set to end soon either, with the second wave of humidity to hit later in the summer, according to meteorologists.

To help combat the heat, Talabat has teamed up with produce supplier Bakarat to distribute over 30,000 ice creams to delivery riders.

The delivery app will be handing out the cool treats to staff in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi until August 31 as part of the Summer Together initiative.

The ice-creams will be given to Dubai drivers every Friday, but they will also be encouraged to use the company’s air-conditioned rest areas, which come equipped with water dispensers and mobile phone charges.

In addition to the cooling off spaces across the city, Talabat also announced it has provided cloud kitchen spaces for riders to take breaks and refuel between orders.

And Talabat is not the only one making sure workers out in the heat are looked after this summer.

In July, the RTA announced it had introduced a water dispenser for delivery drivers that turned humid air into clean drinking water for delivery drivers.

The local Freej Fridge project has also been out in the community this summer, handing out cold waters, juices and ice-creams to construction workers and delivery drivers in traditional ice-cream vans.

If you’re aware of the heat and want to do your part to help the city’s delivery drivers, there are things you can do at home too.

From stocking up on water to making sure you’re prompt to collect your order, we share all the ways you can support drivers this summer.
