The process has been simplified

Dubai is an expat haven and it’s not hard to see why.

But expats wanting to sponsor loved ones need to note that there has been a major update to the rules as the salary criteria to sponsor their relatives or their wives’ relatives have changed.

To sponsor a relative, an expat must have adequate housing and monthly income. Relatives that can be sponsored can be the expat’s father, mother, underage siblings or the wife’s father and mother.

As for the monthly cash coming into the expat’s bank account, those earning Dhs10,000 a month can sponsor up to five relatives in the UAE.

You can sponsor up to six individuals if your monthly income is Dhs15,000.

Got a large family that wants to join you in Dubai? If you want to sponsor over six people, then the chairman of the authority will determine the applicant’s suitability.

Previously, the minimum salary requirement for sponsoring parents in Dubai was Dhs20,000.

The minimum salary for sponsoring your family (a husband sponsoring a wife and kids) in Dubai is Dhs4,000.

If a wife wishes to sponsor a husband she needs to earn more than Dhs10,000 per month.
