1 360°: DJ Minx and Reelax
The long-running Audio Tonic night at 360° doesn’t kick off until Friday. But don’t panic if you can’t wait to get back on the quay, because One Love has it all sewn up. Aussie DJs Minx and Reelax will be on-hand to play nu-disco, house, electro and a little indie while the sun sets.
2 Alpha: Residents
It’s a new season for Alpha, which means plenty of house and nu-disco tunes from 360°’s Mr Mr and Alpha resident Da:Funct. There’ll also be some kind of live music event on the night, though the details are being kept secret before the event.
Entry Dhs75, ladies free before midnight
3 Chi: BoomBass from Cassius
We went on about BoomBass a load last week, but it would be remiss of us to not include him in this little weekend rundown. He’s the bald half of French house duo Cassius, they of ‘The Sound Of Violence’, ‘Toop Toop’ and ‘Cassius 1999’ fame, and will be DJing at Chi.
Entry Dhs100 available from timeouttickets.com
4 Elegante: DJ Emtee from Creepers
‘We smash shows!!!!’ announces Creepers’ MySpace, using at least three more exclamation marks than we’d deem strictly necessary. Still, we can’t blame Emtee for being enthusiastic about laying down R&B, funky house, garage and more at the usually packed Elegante nightclub.
Entry Dhs100, free for ladies and Face card holders before midnight
5 The Irish Village: The Maplejacks
It’s the 13th birthday of The Irish Village this weekend. Unlucky for some, but lucky for those who want to enjoy the pop/rock cover stylings of The Maplejacks (pictured) or a DJ set from IV regular Marky Mark (no, not Mark Wahlberg – Max Payne was a terrible movie but he’s not been reduced to DJing at pubs just yet).
It’s also the 250th anniversary of the opening of the first Guinness brewery.
6 Sanctuary: Residents
Living up to its name, Sanctuary is hardly the easiest club in the world to get to. But it might be worth the effort to make this opening night as the club’s seven residents (including Amin Golestan – pictured – and Julian Jinx) play tunes in all three rooms.
Entry Dhs100 regular, Dhs150 VIP
7 Wonderland: Karishma Tanna and more
The Wonderland park near Garhoud Bridge will play host to this year’s Dandiya festival, which will see celeb singers Bakhtiyaar Irani, Tanaaz, Karishma Tanna (pictured) and Chaitanya Chaudhary performing, as well as gigs by Mini Satellite. Same event happens Friday 25.
Entry Dhs45 single, Dhs70 couples and Dhs120 for a family of four, timeouttickets.com
8 360°: Residents
This Friday sees the return of Audio Tonic, the weekly house sundowner at the ever-popular 360° venue. Residents Mr Mr, Vas Floyd, Raxon (pictured) and JC will provide the beats while the Burj Al Arab provides the backdrop for a cool sundowner – assuming, of course, that the summer mist doesn’t ruin the view a little bit…
9 Nasimi: Local talent
Despite a slightly over-stretched beginning, the Nasimi beach parties became a great fixture in the pre-Ramadan schedules, so we’re happy to see them returning now. John Spoor, DJ Solo, Smokingroove and Charl Chaka will respectively provide soulful house, funk and soul, and a double-dose of Chicago house, while Tim Hassall plays blues and folk.
10 Elegante: Panjabi MC
In 2002, Panjabi MC helped bring bhangra into the Western mainstream with his single ‘Mundian To Bach Ke’. Since then he’s released six albums, with his latest – Indian Timing – released this year. Expect new tracks and classic desi and bhangra tunes.
Entry Dhs100, free for ladies before midnight
