Zinc’s Got Talent

When the UK started screening Britain’s Got Talent, it seemed like the last gasp for American Idol-style audition shows

When the UK started screening Britain’s Got Talent, it seemed like the last gasp for American Idol-style audition shows – even though its more general ‘talent show’ focus meant that everything from dance troupes to acoustic musicians could get up on stage. And then Susan Boyle – she of furry eyebrows and angelic voice – stepped up to the mic and became a worldwide sensation. We could’ve eaten our hats.

Now it seems that Zinc is following suit with the suspiciously named Zinc’s Got Talent open mic night. They’re no doubt hoping that Dubai’s answer to Susan Boyle will be present, but apparently they’re just as happy to have dancers, magicians and comedians try their hand (or mouth, or feet) at the game. And if you need a little more incentive to do your thing, then it’s worth remembering that all proceeds from the show
will help build a school for the autistic in Dubai. It’s hard to argue with charity. Now get practising!

Zinc’s Got Talent is at Zinc on April 9, Dhs30; all proceeds go to Dubai Autism Centre.
