Welcome, ladies and gents, to the first-ever Time Out monthly band of the month competition. Each month we'll be picking out some of Dubai's best and brightest bands and putting them up to audience vote, with the winner getting an exclusive interview in Time Out magazine, and an accompanying photoshoot in our studio.
The competition is open to bands or solo performers in any genre, but this week we've picked out three great rock bands to compete. Who will triumph? Who will fail? Listen to the music below and decide for yourself! The best comments may even be featured in the magazine.
The winners will be chosen on May 13, so get voting!
If you saw Nikotin playing at Dubai Road to SoundCity, opening for Nickelback, playing at Wakestock 2010 in Abu Dhabi or just rocking out at one of the city’s live band nights then you’ll almost certainly remember them. Their live sets radiate charisma and fun, and their brand of melodic hard rock is pretty catchy too. Listen to it below.

Point of View
Veterans of Dubai’s rock scene, Point of View’s hard rock sound – influenced by metal, prog rock and more – is carrying them to India, Europe and Sri Lanka on tour this year. And it’s no wonder – their talent shines through both in their recorded tracks and in their live shows, which included the popular Pink Floyd tribute act.

Universal Rogue’s slamming, hard rock sound has been honed over seven years of playing everything from little bar gigs to open-air festivals, but the injection of new blood this year has revitalised the band. They’ll be making their first official release this year, if all goes well, and we’re certainly looking forward to it.
