Call us twisted, but we found the Icelandic volcano drama last month weirdly thrilling. In a world that has become so small, where travelling to the other side of the globe means a few hours of discomfort rather than years of life-endangering horror, seeing nature grind entire countries to a halt felt rather exciting. And we got to play ‘spot the stranded tourist’.
But it wasn’t all good – it also meant a rash of cancellations, delayed gigs and general nightlife misery. Two such affected events were the return of UK rock band Toploader (guitarist Dan Hipgrave pictured above, inset) and classical music from Ovidio De Ferrari (main pic). But now they’ve made it to town and are ready to play – and both in the same week.
