Groove Assassin! It’s the kind of name that sounds really cool until you think about it a bit. He assassinates grooves? People are on the dancefloor and then he turns up and shoots the speakers? Hmm. We’re not entirely sure, especially since by all accounts he’ll be doing exactly the opposite when he plays 360° this week.
Groove Assassin – we’ll call him Nick, because that’s his name – has been purveying his particular brand of deep, funky house around the world for years now, drawing on genres as diverse as disco, R&B, jazz-funk, classic house and ’80s breakdance tunes for additional flavour. It’s taken him to Ibiza’s biggest clubs, including Space, Amnesia, Es Paradis and Café Del Mar, as well as gigs for Ministry of Sound in his native UK.
All in all, we think it’s fair to expect big things from his gig on 360°’s quay this week, and we’re sure he’ll only be ‘killing it’ in the best possible meaning of the phrase.
Groove Assassin plays 360°, May 29, free but reservations are recommended.
