We’re excited – renowned London rapper Roots Manuva is heading to Alpha on June 10 for what promises to be a storming show. And if you’re wondering why we’re waiting ’til now to tell you, so are we – he kept this one on the serious down-low.
The distinctly British hip hop star, who has been known to rap about cheese on toast, found his passion for music when he first felt the power of bass. Known to his friends as Rodney Smith, he won a MOBO award for Best Hip Hop Act in 1999 following the release of his debut album, Brand New Second Hand. A decade and five albums later, he’s one of British hip hop’s most talented and credible artists. And if that’s not enough, he’s also responsible for popularising the phrase ‘witness the fitness’. Amazing.
Roots Manuva and DJ MK play Smooth Grooves at Alpha on June 10, 9pm-3am. Dhs50, free entry and house beverages for ladies before midnight.
