Notoriously publicity-shy house legend Carter is set to hold court at Chi this week, bringing his legendary Chicago house sound to Dubai’s masses. After releasing his first EP in 1988, innovative tracks and pioneering sounds have led him to become one of the most influential DJs and producers in the industry, creating remixes for artists including The Human League, Modjo, DJ Sneak and Röyksopp.
Though his sets have their foundations in house, he’s not afraid to draw in old-school disco, soul and jazz among others, and freely admits Prince is the artist who takes up the most space on his iPod. He may prefer to stay underground, but we’re hoping this set will see him burst into the consciousness of Dubai’s usually mainstream party scene.
Derrick Carter plays Chi on July 22. Doors open 9pm, Dhs125 on the door.
