It’s easy to hate Sting, but what do you think of his music

It’s easy to hate Sting. And since human emotion, like electricity, follows the path of least resistance, this means his name alone brings many people out in hives. How fitting. These orchestral reworkings of his Police-era and solo hits, in collaboration with the Royal Symphony Orchestra, are effectively an hour-long tantric indulgence. His later, more syrupy material responds better to the treatment, but there’s little in the way of real verve or soul. Oddly, the ensuing tour is sponsored by Xerox, who we wouldn’t have thought would want themselves to be associated with inferior copies.
