Aggro Santos

Born in Brazil and bred in London, this grime/rap artist has surely been subject to some diverse influences

Born in Brazil and bred in London, this grime/rap artist has surely been subject to some diverse influences, which is pretty apparent in ‘Candy’, his hugely popular debut track featuring ex-Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt. His latest track, ‘Saint or Sinner’, feels retro, but in a good way, combining elements of breakbeat with Dizzee Rascal-esque lyrics (the similarity of their intonations is startling) and a combination of both sampled and sung vocals.

While his lyrics could do with a little more creative injection, the tracks as a whole are floor fillers, and those who enjoyed Tinie Tempah’s gig at Chi earlier this year will surely lap up Santos’s slightly less edgy, marginally more poppy brand of British rap when he performs at the club this week.

Aggro Santos plays Chi on September 16. Doors open 9pm, tickets Dhs100, free entry for ladies and Face card holders before midnight.
