After more than a decade in the thick of the New York music scene, appearing on numerous records and gigging his way round the city that never sleeps, top session drummer, composer and author Chris Michael upped (drum) sticks and moved to the Middle East last year. He’s put the past 12 months to good use fine-tuning a new sextet, which will make its Dubai debut with this gig at The Fridge.
Expect a genre-mashing set of standards from the worlds of jazz, funk, Latin and flamenco – the sort of music typically seen as the musician’s forte. The stellar line-up will also include bassist Elie Afif, guitarist Amir Mafakher, pianist Tigran Peshtmajyan, percussionist Rony Afif and saxophonist Jino Kim.
Dhs50. Monday November 21, 7.30pm. The Fridge, Street 26, Al Quoz, (04 347 7793).
