Culture Club in Dubai

Book ahead for visit of Karma Chameleon outfit

It’s a reunion that has turned a few heads. Nearly 10 years since Culture Club last performed together, no one expected the notorious ’80s New Romantics to reform – especially when bassist Mikey Craig and drummer Jon Moss put out a rather public advert for Boy George’s replacement in 2006. But time heals all wounds and now, along with guitarist Roy Hay, the original line-up are on their way to Dubai to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary – despite originally splitting in 1986.

George has endured a tumultuous few years, serving four months in UK jail for assault and false imprisonment in 2008, as well as being arrested in New York three years earlier for drugs offences. It’s not clear how
the flamboyant frontman’s stylings will go down with Dubai’s locals, but we’ve been promised all the hits, including ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me’, ‘Time (Clock of the Heart)’, ‘I’ll Tumble 4 Ya’ and ‘Karma Chameleon’.
Dhs295. Doors open 6pm, show starts 9pm, Friday December 29. Dubai Tennis Stadium, Garhoud, www.timeouttickets.com.
