Deep gets some of the biggest names in dance music through its doors week in, week out. But now it’s upping sticks and moving to Mix. Events director Amy Wilkinson-Lough tells James Wilkinson what’s going on.
Deep has picked up its feet and moved to Mix – why’s that, then?
Since the closing of Trilogy in January, Deep Nights has been on hold whilst we’ve looked for our new home. We had a good run and a lot of fun with Deep Club at Elegante but now Deep Nights is back with a vengeance at Mix. We feel it is definitely a venue worthy of associating Deep Nights with. The location is excellent, it’s large enough to hold our fabulous capacity crowds and we reckon the atmosphere will be hard to beat. I definitely think that people will be pleasantly surprised!
Have there been any changes other than moving the venue?
Our lineup has become more varied, offering clubbers a little more than just what they’ve grown accustomed to. Deep Nights actively supports new and upcoming DJ talents, like Sebastian Leger who rocked Elegante a few weeks ago. Aside from musical changes, we now have a much bigger team within Deep. Everyone brings something to the table, so this means we’ve been able to add in elements of production and peripheral entertainment.
What does Mix have that Elegante didn’t?
They are two very different clubs, and both offer something unique. We’ve held some amazing nights at Elegante, and I’m sure we’ll go on to do the same at the Mix.
Are you doing anything to the venue for the nights?
I test drove the new sound system we’re putting in on Thursday and my ears are still ringing! We’ve made a lot of changes; the venue will be as glamorous as the Deep crowd. But I don’t want to reveal too much – Deep is all about the element of surprise.
What DJs are playing this week?
Hernan Cattaneo is making his Deep debut. About time, we know! He’s an absolutely phenomenal DJ, one of the world’s most successful and popular wizards behind the decks. His last gig here was a sell out, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him to our new home by popular demand. It will definitely be one of those nights you look back on and think, ‘Oh yeah, that rocked!’
Who’ll be there in the future?
Deep has a strong future ahead of it; over the next few months we’ll mix – no pun intended – new acts and well-established artists. May’s line-up has the excellent Alex Gaudino, the ever-fantastic Tom Novy and the always-unpredictable Chris Lake to name but a few.
What will convince Time Out’s readers to get over to Mix?
All I can say is: phenomenal artists, a super sound system and a crowd that really knows how to party. If you don’t want to be a part of that, stay in your house!
Deep Nights runs every Thursday at Mix, 10pm-late, Dhs150.
