Tell us about the last time… you received an award
I was given ‘Creative Artist Of The Year’ at the Portugal House Music Awards. It was amazing – over 18,000 people were in attendance – and it was simply a blessing to be recognised for being in the business for 23 years. But even before that, three years ago at the London At The House awards show, I won three awards and then someone stole one of them!
...you were starstruck
I have never been starstruck. We all have an assignment here on Earth, and being an artist is a blessing for us – to be able to lift the spirits and consciousness of people by giving hope through our music. But I do admire people on the level of Martin Luther King, Ghandi and people like that – they are teachers of life.
...you wrote a song
It was two weeks ago: ‘Sandcastles In The Sky’. It’s about building your hopes and dreams high, away from drama, but reachable. It will be my first release this fall from my album, Love Vibration, on BStar Music Group.
…you were terrified
Thank God I haven’t felt that yet! My faith is strong!
…a celebrity or musician was nicer than you expected
The artists I know personally, like David Morales, India, Michelle Weeks, are always nice. It’s like a friendly, family relationship. That’s what I love about house – we treat others how we want to be treated: with love and respect. And we can be silly with each other!
...amazing gig you performed
We were just in Angola, at the chill-out lounge. We started at 3am and stopped at 7am. It was on the beach and the people were lovely, and I couldn’t stop singing or dancing. Or eating calamari. I’m fished out!
…someone underestimated you
Usually they underestimate me as a performer. I’ve been performing for 23-plus years, but when I get on the stage it’s usually, ‘Wow, you have so much energy,’ or, ‘You are high voltage.’ House is ageless – and so am I when I’m on the stage!
