Expect to be swimming in the aisles (okay, not quite) at this evening of tear-jerking classics. Italy is the home of opera, producing the globe’s most heart-wrenching dramatic scores, while Italian is the international language of the libretto. So to celebrate Italian National Day, this greatest hits-style compendium has been assembled, taking in many of the best-known musical highs of the Western world – all sung in Italian. Expect arias from Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Bizet’s Carmen, alongside the Italian greats such as Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Puccini’s La Boheme and Verdi’s La Forza del Destino and Il Rigoletto, as interpreted by soprano Monica De Rosa McKay, baritone Giuseppe Deligia, and pianists Vitali Mihailiuc and Larisa Capatina.
