New weekly Dubai club nights

This week: rumours of some exciting upcoming gigs

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive again lately, with a lot of fresh talk about exciting people coming to play Dubai. First, we’ve heard that DJ legend Paul Oakenfold could be making a welcome return early in the new year. Last spotted behind the decks at Trilogy in February on his ambitious Four Seasons tour, we’ve heard Oakey is being lined up for another February date next year – this time at an outdoor venue. After disappointment that rumours of a June gig fell through, this is music to our ears.

Hip-hop heads will be pleased to hear that proceedings are in place to bring vintage Memphis rappers Three 6 Mafia over in March, with rapper Redman also being lined up for a gig in June.

Closer in time, a couple of bookings in the near future we can confirm are Chicago house DJ Ron Carroll on December 7, playing the third edition of XL Beach Club’s monthly Rehab night, and Swiss DJ Yves Larock, known for hit ‘RiseUp’, who will be spinning at the same club’s NYE party.

It seems as though ‘M’ is the letter of the week, with a couple of alliterative new nights starting: Mahiki Mondays and Mixx @ Madinat. Regarding the former, Mahiki has launched a new weekly happening that is a little more relaxed than a conventional night at the hectic, Polynesian-themed club.

With a ‘beach luau’ theme, the night’s aim is to recreate the vibe of an outdoor beach party in the lightless, underground club – with guests encouraged to dress in ‘beach chic’. We’ll see how this one works out. Elsewhere, the new Mixx @ Madinat night will see events taking place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Souk Amphitheatre, under the backdrop of views Fort Island and Mina A’Salam. Running from 7.30pm
until 10.30pm, mixed drinks will be served alongside bean bags and music from DJ Sticky Fingers behind the decks. It looks to be a fine place to start a night before hitting nearby Trilogy or Jambase.

That’s all for now, party people – now get out and play.
