This week we’ve heard that 2013’s Chill Out Festival has been postponed until the second part of the year. Last year’s event, headlined by The Kooks and De La Soul, took place at Media City in late April. However, this year organisers are looking at an October date and a new venue, as well as a new concept with upbeat acts on day one and ‘chill-out’ artists on the second.
Fresh from hosting an Australia Day bash last week, Nasimi Beach is gearing up to celebrate another nationality with a Brazilian carnival. The venue will offer food, dance and tunes on Friday February 8 from 2pm to coincide with the annual celebration in Brazil, which starts 40 days before Easter.
There’s another exciting booking confirmed for Trilogy on Valentine’s Day. Welsh DJ Sasha will be spinning at the Madinat club on Thursday February 14, the first in a trio of notable guests: Graeme Park returns for a post-Stone Roses shindig on Thursday February 21 and 2manydjs are in town a week later.
It’s all change at top alternative nightspot Republique. The club will now host party band Mojo upstairs every Thursday and Friday from 8pm. Downstairs on Thursdays, Dean Curtis will keep the retro magic spinning, with a new urban focus on Fridays from guest Mr Shef Codes – plus karaoke every Saturday from 7pm.
Finally, young rockers will be pleased to hear that a renowned rock school is landing in Dubai. Endorsed by UK bands including Manic Street Preachers and recent Sandancers Stereophonics, the Rock Academy will roll into Dubai from Sunday March 31 to Sunday April 7. That’s all for now, party people – it’s time to get out and play.
