Music news in Dubai

Bruno Mars, Metallica and Blaze Bayley are on their way to Dubai

So: Bruno Mars is coming to Dubai. In case you’ve been under a rock since last week, it’s been announced that the Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter will be playing Dubai Media City on Friday April 12. Exciting times.

Rockers also have a reason to rejoice – the other big gig news is that Metallica are returning to rock Abu Dhabi. Following a heavier-than-healthy UAE debut in October 2011 (pictured right), the genre-defining metal legends return to Yas Island on Friday April 19 to play at du Arena. It’s the first of two bits of good news for metal fans: former Iron Maiden frontman Blaze Bayley is also stopping by in the spring. Best known for fronting one of the world’s heaviest bands for five years in the ’90s, which came after a decade with Wolfsbane, Bayley will be playing an acoustic show when he comes to Dubai. Catch him at The Music Room on Friday May 31.

If electro sounds are more your game, then we’re pleased to tell you that DJ Andy Smith is heading to these shores. Known for supplying sugary samples and glitchy genius to Portisheard records, see him spinning at Casa Latina on Thursday March 14.

We’ve heard on the grapevine that indie night Step On is likely to be moving to a new home at an unlikely venue – Blends.

Meanwhile we’re pleased to see the city’s recent surge of drum’n’bass continue to pour fourth, with Something Big bringing out the UK’s Icicle on Friday February 22 for another bass-down at The Music Room. That’s all for now, party people!
