Dubai party news

Exciting Sandance updates, comedy announcements and more hype

Hype is already starting to build for the final Sandance of the season, to be hosted on Friday May 10. In case you missed it, after weeks of whispers Florence and the Machine have been confirmed as the first headliner, but speculation is brimming over about the rest of the bill. Promoters have told us to expect the ‘classic’ Sandance line-up of a chilled sunset act, before an indie/rock band (Ms Welch and her Machine), with a more uptempo pop/urban act warming up before a big-name DJ. While nothing was official as we went to press, we’ve heard talk of a old-school reggae band being lined up for sundown, and a hot UK dubstep DJ for later in the evening.

The other big news is that ‘the biggest comedian in the world’ is coming to Dubai. English comic Michael McIntyre made headlines last year after grossing Dhs116 million in a single year – just a few million less than The Rolling Stones reunion – but he’ll be adding to his fortune at Dubai World Trade Centre on Saturday June 8.

From the biggest stars in the world to local talent, and we’re pleased to hear there’s another Fridge Concert Series set to start in mid-May, with sultry jazz singer Melissa Le Rue likely to open things with the launch of a new EP. Also performing will be fusion hero Kamal Musallam, some classical chamber music, and a local rock band – we’ll bring you more details of these weekly gigs as we have them.

Finally, it’s great to hear that Andy C is returning for GlobalFunk at The Music Room on Thursday April 18 – we ranked his last gig here one of the ten best of the year at our recent Music & Nightlife Awards – check the results at That’s all for now party people – get out and play!
