Wear shorts at Movida and big gig news in Dubai

It might be one of Dubai’s most exclusive, select, and all-round stylish clubs, but Movida is chilling on its elite reputation – by allowing clubbers in wearing shorts. Throughout April, the award-winning club will host a weekly ‘Sorry for Friday Rocking’ night where as well as decking out the club in uncharacteristically bizarre wares, clubbers are encouraged to come as they are with a heavily relaxed dress code.

We were thrilled to hear the full line-up released for the next Sandance, with Warp’s Nightmares on Wax adding chilled electronica for sundown, plus Brit-rockers Keane, and a DJ set from Groove Armada, who last rocked Atlantis beach back in November 2011, joining Florence and the Machine on the bill for the May 10 gig.

While summer may be coming, before you pack away those festival hats we’ve heard there may be a couple more big gigs on the way. There’s talk of a British guitar band being lined up for later in April, while another promoter has promised a solo British singer for May.

In other gig news, it looks like Massive Attack could be on their way to play Dubai. We’ve heard G and D could be coming to perform a DJ set somewhere on The Palm.

It’s nice to see Cirque du Soir’s hip-hop Chic Mondays are going strong. Fresh from hosting Grandmaster Flash on Monday April 22, the one and only Jazzy Jeff will make his first appearance in the emirate since spinning for our very own Nightlife Awards party last March.

Finally, the Dubai Rock Fest we told you all about in our March 20-26 issue has been postponed until Friady June 7 and moved to Dubai World Trade Centre. That’s all for now – it’s time to get out and play!
