Jazzy Jeff to play NYE gig in Dubai

We dig up the juicy rumours, new openings and hot events in Dubai’s music and nightlife scene.

More announcements are coming through for New Year’s Eve parties as it’s been revealed Barasti will see DJ Jazzy Jeff from 1990s TV comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spinning the decks at the end of 2013.

In more news we’ve heard that Dubai is soon to have a sister club to White Beirut. The rooftop nightspot will launch this month at Meydan and will have a capacity of 1,000. And we’ve also heard that Societe is set to throw open its doors on December 12. The venue, which will be located on the site of Joseon in the Marina Byblos Hotel in Dubai Marina, will play 1980s, 1990s and 2000s music and will feature a yet to be revealed ‘crazy area’.

In Dubai International Film Festival news it’s been announced that in celebration of its tenth anniversary, Amr Diab will perform in Burj Park. The concert will take place on December 6 and tickets will start at Dhs350. Diab, who has 25 albums to his name, is known as ‘the father of Mediterranean music’ for his blend of Western and Egyptian rhythms and is also one of the best-selling Middle Eastern artists of all time.

Guitar fans are in for a treat as it’s been announced that Santana is to perform at next year’s Dubai Jazz Festival on February 13 – and there’ll be even more announcements soon.

Finally, we’re please to learn local comic Ali Al Sayed and the team at events organisers Dubomedy have thrown their support behind Dubai’s World Expo 2020 bid. A YouTube video featuring over 40 residents of different nationalities has been published where they each answer the question, ‘What do you love about Dubai?’ The video can be seen on Dubomedy’s YouTube channel.
