We dig up the juicy rumours, new openings and hot events in Dubai’s music and nightlife scene.
Following the traffic chaos on the Palm on New Year’s Eve, Sandance has promised a full refund to all of its customers as well as an enticing offer of 50 percent off tickets for the next festival – hopefully that will appease disappointed revellers.
In other news, we’ve noticed a buzz developing around UAE-based Lebanese rapper N1YAH’s mixtape My Name Is. We’ve been impressed here at Time Out Towers so we’re hoping she’ll be dropping a full record in 2014.
House aficionados already have plenty to look forward to in 2014 with 360˚ regulars Audio Tonic and club Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE each unveiling their upcoming guest DJs. January 31 will see DJ Anna (Kraftek) jetting in from Brazil to drop some high energy chunky house on the Sunset Sessions night, with support from resident DJs Tristan Bain, Raxon, Conan Manchester and Markii. Meanwhile Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE has revealed that on the same night it’s throwing a party with Berlin’s DJ Dixon on the decks. The house maestro was recently voted number one DJ in the world by Resident Advisor, so we’re expecting great things.
Pleasingly, we’ve heard that a number of acoustic gigs are planned for later in the year at Madinat Jumeirah. British pop rock outfit Shakespears Sister is said to be coming over in May and ’80s pop singer and the star behind 1981’s smash hit single ‘Kids in America,’ Kim Wilde is landing on our shores in October for her own unplugged set.
Finally, fans of commercial dance music are in for a treat during the first quarter of the year as Dutch DJ Tiësto is rumoured to be lining up to perform. Looks like 2014 is gearing up to be another vintage year here in Dubai.
