This underground electro night is a hipsters’ haven spinning wilfully intelligent and eclectic nuggets from a revolving door of guest DJs.

Blues Weekender at Century Village
Two days of blues and more at this outdoor mini-festival, starring Dave Ferguson, a harmonica player, beatboxer and singer who employs loop stations to create a thick brew of ‘trans-blues and country dub’. Also performing are acclaimed US blues guitarist Michael Roach and Scottish singer-songwriter Sandi Thom. And it’s all free.

District Live Thursdays
A funky Thursday night at this chic DIFC lounge, with live neo soul/funk from Layla & the Free Sound Project, plus beats from DJ Rich E.

Superheroes present Zombie Disco Squad at The Dek on 8
This fresh-faced (and free) bass and garage night returns with East London beat maker Zombie Disco Squad, known for working with Chicago bass don DJ Funk and UK soul legend Omar, and for festival slots everywhere from LA to Ukraine. Also spinning is London’s ATTS and residents Under The Moon, Kasparov and Somalie.

Whose Line is it Anyway? at Madinat Theatre
This live improv spin-off of the hit comedy TV show has been visiting Dubai for years now and invariably sells out. This year’s three-night run sees a famous face added to the ranks, with TV presenter and stand-up Phill Jupitus joining the Comedy Store Players regulars.

Yolo at Movida
International party brand Yolo host the entertainment tonight at this high-end night spot, featuring DJs Alex Simmons, Richard Lawrence and Chris Wright.

Audio Tonic sunset sessions with Chopstick and Johnjon at 360°

This underground bass night returns to Casa Latina, offering a mix of edgy beats and drinks deals. It’s a full bill of Dubai names, with Altitude, Kymera and Kosmic Kay all guesting alongside residents Woodle and Jab (real names, we’re assured).

London dub/hip-hop collective Dub Pistols have been peddling interesting, jagged, urban, funky soundscapes for more than 15 years, as well as remixing everyone from Limp Bizkit to Moby. Catch their genre-bending mashups live on the beach at Barasti.

South Africa Freedom Day Celebration at Emirates Golf Club
Infusion host an all-dayer to mark 20 years of post-apartheid elections. The tunes come from SA DJs including Arno Carstens, Mandoza, DJ Ready D and Crazy White Boy, plus there’s daytime family activities, traditional foods, fitness challenges, a petting zoo and party games.

World Classical Music Series with Julia Novikova
The world-renowned Russian soprano performs a selection of popular arias and lieder by composers from Dvorák to Strauss, Verdi to Rachmaninoff and Handel to Debussy. A mixed bag for sure – or a handy introduction to the newcomer. The piano is provided by Semjon Skigin.

Despite being the first night of the week, Okku is reliably packed with a glam crowd for this Sunday night party, which spins a mix of house and more commercial fare.

Hip-Hop Chic at Cirque Le Soir
A top weekly urban night with a decent crowd.

Kamal Musallam at O Cacti
