Abri and The Funk Radius at Jazz@Pizza Express
Practically a UAE supergroup, this funky outfit brings together the soulful voice of Hamdan Al-Abri, the jazz-influenced grooves of brothers Rony and Elie Afif, Jay Wud’s bluesy guitar, a Stax-style horn section, and plenty of head-nodding attitude. Expect to hear a mix of familiar songs reworked into a funk-soul context, and the group’s own groovy, jammed concoctions.

Analog Room at Q Underground
This underground electro night is a hipsters’ haven spinning wilfully intelligent and eclectic nuggets from a revolving door of guest DJs.

Boyzone at Dubai Tennis Stadium
Since a teary reunion in 2008, eight years after originally calling it a day, Boyzone have done a fine job of following in Take That’s footsteps and marketing themselves as a vintage piece of nostalgia, selling out concert halls to now fully grown women who grew up on their syrupy pop, while newer releases fall on largely deaf ears. Classical Vienna at One&Only
Themed on Romanticism’s much-feted Vienna heyday, expect an evening of Mozart, Beethoven and Ries brought to life by the small chamber group of Herbert Faltynek (Clarinet), Rudolf Leopold (Violoncello) and Hrvoje Jugovic (Piano). Timeless music performed by worthy pros.

Deep Crates Cartel with Oddisee at The Q Underground
Veteran NYC rapper and producer Oddisee has notched up an impressive CV of more than ten full-length LPs, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Low Budget Crew and Diamond District. He’s also dropped numerous mixtapes, EPs and guest slots – including one alongside Jazzy Jeff – and performed with De La Soul and The Roots.

Draupadi: Voice of Dignity at Madinat Theatre
Indian Musical and mythology inspired by the character of Draupadi, presented to the audience through a blend of classical and contemporary music, dance, and theatre.

Dubai Rock Festival at Al Nasr Leisureland
After a heavier-than-healthy festival at Dubai World Trade last year headlined by Swedish guitar master Yngwie Malmsteen, Dubai Rock Fest moves to a new home to host a total of five scary-sounding bands. Topping the bill is a return visit from French traditionalists Nightmare, veterans of the scene from 1979 who thrilled fans at the 2013 event. Also from France are innovators Loudblast, while Demonic Resurrection, winners of Metal Hammer’s Golden award, will visit from India. The bill is rounded off by Nervcecell, known as one of the region’s best-selling bands, plus fellow UAE rockers Ascendant.

Dust Voyeurhythm special at King’s Club
Following on from last year’s basement affair, top underground club night Dust host another showcase of affiliate UK label Voyeurhythm. Headlining is label mainstays Linkwood and Tyson Ballard, who promise all sorts of ‘organic’ and ‘emotive’ grooviness, the former mixing solely on vinyl. Locals Megadon Betamax, James Locksmith and Essarai are down to spin, too. Expect top tunes.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at Madinat Arena
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a highly trained Pakistani singer, rooted in the Qawalli and Sufi tradition. The nephew of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and the torchbearer of the Fateh Ali musical family, this is an opportunity to see a genuine musical legend live in the flesh. Expect ectastic, extended, spiritual vocal workouts, alongside some poppier crossover numbers, ghazals and more.
