Abri and The Funk Radius at Jazz@PizzaExpress
Practically a UAE supergroup, this funky outfit brings together the soulful voice of Hamdan Al Abri, the jazz-influenced grooves of brothers Rony and Elie Afif, Jay Wud’s bluesy guitar, a Stax-style horn section and plenty of head-nodding attitude. Expect to hear a mix of familiar songs reworked into a funk-soul context and the group’s own groovy concoctions.

Bad House Party at Casa Latina
This monthly indie shindig weighs in with its last party of the year. Expect a beguilingly diverse range of tunes – punk, indie, electro and more eclectic oddballs – a thoroughly relaxed vibe and, er, the night’s now-trademark blow-up animals. Guest DJs this month include The Egyptian and The Lemon. Really.

Reset presents My Favourite Robot at Story Rooftop
The end of the season is a funny time to launch a new night – but here we have it. Fresh electro offering Reset gets things underway by hosting clever Canadian trio My Favourite Robot – and it’s free. Expect interesting sounds and a hip crowd.

Something Big Presents: Tunnidge at Catwalk
Underground bass happening Something Big wraps up a successful season with dubstep international Tunnidge guesting on the decks. Expect across-the-board bass music earlier in the evening from a line-up of locals including DJ MoCity, Masscon, T-Base, Terpit and HooDub.

The Laughter Factory at the Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach
The last full Laughter Factory bill before summer comes up trumps with a strong trio of comics. Up front is rising star Kane Brown, who has made a fast mark for his bold and honest approach. Career highs include warming up for Chris Rock and playing alongside boxing champion Amir Khan at a charity fundraiser. Also on the bill is Tom Wrigglesworth, a former winner of Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny? whose jokes are as memorable as his mane, and Mick Ferry, a surreal performer normally spotted at the Comedy Store performing as part of the Cutting Edge Team. He’s also had screen success with slots on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, a role in Ken Loach’s 2009 Palm D’Or-winning flick Looking For Eric and worked as a writer on John Bishop’s Britain.

The Weeknd at People by Crystal
This classic Dubai club weighs in with an impressive booking of trailblazing rapper/producer The Weeknd who, along with Frank Ocean, has helped pioneer a new wave of credible and mature hip-hop. The Canadian artist guests at the recently opened sister venue in Abu Dhabi tomorrow (Friday), too.

Audio Tonic at 360°
The upstairs deck may be closed in the heat, but the party continues on the lower level with AT’s reliable residents at the helm. This week it’s three of our favourites: disco king Megadon Betamax, head honcho Mr Mr and two-time Best Dubai DJ-winner Raxon.

Happy Techno at The Music Room
Life may be moving inside for summer, but this indoor venue is hoping to emulate the colour of the great outdoors with this Spanish-themed techno night, promising a mix of live music, DJs and performers throughout the evening. Guests include Happy Techno resident DJs Lexlay and Agatha Pher and a live PA from Ellys Leon.

Jamie Jones at Blue Marlin
The founder of trendsetting imprint Hot Creations, Jamie Jones is among the more influential people in house music right now. Following from a cancelled gig earlier this year, this summer session represents one of the last big beach bashes of the season.

The Raaga Factory at The Address Dubai Marina
An intriguing evening of world sounds, promising a mix of genres and instruments. Expect to hear Western tunes set to dhol beats, folk music fused with jazz notes, Hindustani classical taans, raagas strummed on a guitar, an electronic touch to soulful sufi strains. One for the hardcore and curious alike.
