7 MASSIVE gigs coming to Dubai

Buble, Sheeran, Nutini, Williams, Drake and Direction coming to Dubai

This month is all about festivals, but March and April will bring stand-alone performances from the likes of Drake, Ed Sheeran, Michael Buble, One Direction and Paolo Nutini. We bring you the lowdown on each.

Michael Bublé

After a series of some 200 high-profile gigs across the world, jazz pop supremo Michael Bublé is finally bringing his boyish charm to the UAE. Fans are set to hear songs from his sixth studio album To Be Loved, which hit number one in 11 countries, reached the top ten in another 14 and earned Bublé a Grammy award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Loved for his melodic covers of classics such as ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ and ‘Cry Me A River’, as well as his own hits including the smash ‘I Just Haven’t Met You Yet’, Bublé boasts a soaring back catalogue of hits.

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran’s meteoric rise to stardom began in 2011 with his debut album +, featuring the singles ‘The A Team’ and ‘Lego House’. The album went platinum five times over in the UK and in 2012 he won two Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. Since then, the 23-year-old has appeared on Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album, Red, and contributed two songs for One Direction’s second studio album, Take Me Home. The Toronto-born artist shot to fame in 2009 with hits, ‘Find your Love’ and ‘Forever’ and has sold more than five million albums worldwide. He also boasts a Grammy award and officially has more number one songs in the US Billboard Chart than any other rapper. He is best-known for his hits ‘Take Care’ and ‘The Motto’, and for collaborations with the biggest names in the industry, including Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Drake is also renowned for having one of the biggest live productions by a hip-hop artist. His show is set to be an extensive production that includes pyrotechnics, lasers and extensive lighting.

Paolo Nutini

Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini is live in concert at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on Friday April 10. Performing tracks from his critically acclaimed platinum-selling third album Caustic Love as well as his previous multi-platinum-selling albums These Streets and Sunny Side Up, Paolo makes his return to Dubai. Caustic Love was selected as Best Album on iTunes as part of its Best of 2014 selection in December and Nutini has just been nominated for Best Male Artist at the upcoming Brit Awards.

Robbie Williams

The British singer brings his Let Me Entertain You Tour to the du Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Sunday April 26. Williams has sold more than 77 million albums and singles worldwide and has been honoured with 17 Brit Awards. The former Take That member will no doubt entertain fans with his classic hits ‘Angels’ and ‘Millennium’ and songs from his latest album, Swings Both Ways.

One Direction

The boy band are bringing their On The Road Again Tour to The Sevens Stadium in Dubai on Saturday April 4. Last year, One Direction released their record-breaking third album Midnight Memories. They also became the first ever band to have their first three albums debut at Number one on the US Billboard Chart, hitting the top spot in a further 30 countries worldwide. Since tickets went on sale last year, more than 30,000 have been sold, making it the fastest-selling UAE concert of all time – it sold out in just 22 days. You may still be able to get a ticket on www.dubizzle.com, but be prepared to pay well above face value.

30 Seconds To Mars

Multi-platinum album American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars will take to the stage on Friday, April 10 at the Dubai World Trade Centre Arena. The band consists of brothers, Jared Leto and Shannon Leto, and lead guitarist Tomo Miličević. The group have sold over five million albums worldwide and the band’s videos have over 500 million YouTube views. The band is noted for its energetic live performances including their number one hit singles “From Yesterday”, “Kings and Queens”, and “This Is War” and the band’s fourth studio album Lust Love Faith + Dreams debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Recently the band released their critically acclaimed music documentary Artifact on iTunes worldwide where it has been a regular at the top of the charts. The concert is in collaboration with Middle East Film and Comic Con 2015 (MEFCC), the region’s largest popular culture festival showcasing Film, TV, Sci-Fi, Animation, Gaming, Comics and more; MEFCC takes place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from April 9 to 11.
