Deacon Blue, The Wailers, Ferry Corsten and Groove Armada coming to Dubai

The Irish Village will bring two iconic bands to Dubai in April and May – popular UK ’80s and ’90s act Deacon Blue will play on Thursday April 16, while Jamaican band The Wailers take to the stage on Thursday May 21. The Wailers, founded by the legendary late Bob Marley, will entertain fans playing their Legend album in its entirety. The album has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide and features the tracks ‘Could You Be Loved’ and ‘Buffalo Soldier’. Formed in 1969 alongside Bob Marley, original members included vocal partners Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, and the Barrett brothers – Carlton on drums and Aston ‘Family Man’ on bass. Today, Aston leads the band. Tickets cost Dhs130 and are available at www.timeouttickets.com.

In other news, Live Nation Middle East has launched an amateur talent search, which will give one lucky winner the chance to perform at the Thirty Seconds to Mars pre-show concert. The competition is open to all UAE and GCC residents with no minimum age limit or restriction on the number of band members. So if you fancy yourself as the next One Direction or John Mayer, upload a 30-second clip of your performance to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #MARSBattleoftheBands and #MARSinDubai. Submissions will be accepted until Monday March 23.

Elsewhere, EDEN Beach Club will play host to Dutch trance DJ Ferry Corsten on Thursday March 26 and British DJ duo Andy Cato and Tom Findlay of Groove Armada on Friday March 27. Groove Armada return to Dubai after their New Year’s Eve gig at Zero Gravity last year. The pair have achieved worldwide success since forming in 1996. Expect to hear tracks including ‘I See You Baby’ and the Grammy-nominated ‘Superstylin’.
